Getting started

Who is it for? Ages 10 and up. Meta Quest is for ages 10 and up, and children aged 10 to 12 use a parent-managed Meta account. Younger brothers and sisters can watch on a TV or phone while an older child plays (use Meta's casting).

Which headsets? Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S.

Do I need the internet? No. The app works offline once it is installed.

Sitting or standing? Both. Choose at the start, or change it in Settings > Comfort.

Reading depths

The app has four reading depths: Quick Look (short and simple), Explorer, Scientist (the default) and Expert (deeper science: orbits, how we know, open questions). Change the depth at any time in Settings. Nothing is locked behind a depth.

Comfort

• The default is teleport and snap turn, which most people find comfortable. Smooth movement is an option in Settings > Comfort, with a comfort vignette.
• In space you sit in a spacecraft cabin, which gives your eyes a steady frame.
• The app reminds you to take a break after 20 minutes of play, or after the time a grown-up chose in Grown-ups > Breaks (15, 20, 30 or 45 minutes). Please do.
• If anyone feels unwell, take the headset off and rest.

Common questions

How do I start again, or delete everything? Grown-ups > Reset progress deletes the badges, logbook, quiz answers, mission progress, settings and photos of the explorer who is playing. Other explorers keep theirs. Grown-ups > Explorers removes an explorer and all of that explorer's data and photos. Grown-ups > Photos deletes only the photos of the explorer who is playing. The grown-ups' settings stay. Uninstalling the app deletes everything, for every explorer.

The view is tilted or I am facing the wrong way. Hold the Meta button on the right controller to recentre.

Is it really the real solar system? Yes. Sizes, distances and orbits are real, and the planets are where they are right now. When you speed up time, the app always shows how fast time is running ("1 second = 1 day"). Your spacecraft is imaginary, but it flies real transfer orbits, and the app tells you how long a real journey takes.
